I've been searching for a position in my field since August of 2020 after getting laid off. I finally heard back from an organization I really wanted to work with, it was an amazing opportunity with great pay. They couldn't work with my schedule for an interview so I had to take time off of work just to go. After nailing the interview, they gave me an assignment to test my abilities. I thought I did great on the assignment. I followed up with them twice. It's now been about a month since I've last heard from them. This is why it's so hard for me to follow through with job applications. I work so hard to tailor my resume and cover letter for the application. I submit all of my sample work. I take time off from work (which IS NOT EASY), just to fucking get ghosted? It's not like I had to deal with a recruiter or anything. I was talking with my potential boss through the entire process. It really doesn't take much time to send me a goddamn email. Smh.

Some of the skills that would enable me to contribute positively to achievement of your goals include: Over 6 years professional experience providing high level support and assistance to both a single department and multiple individuals throughout the company. Comprehensive working knowledge of various computer applications including MS Office Suite. A reputation as a self-directed worker who uses initiative to get the job done in a fast paced work environment. I am most interested in this job opportunity and look forward to discussing my candidacy with you soon. Thank you again for the opportunity to interview. Follow- up on job interview sample letter thank you

Why would I lie? Furthermore, I'm in late stages of interviews with other companies hiring for the same role! A "large learning curve? " A total insult to my intelligence. If you already think I can't do the work, then why would I want work for a team who is already ready to see me fail? So I can spend months trying to prove myself? Why would I want to do that? Am I crazy? Should I just go ahead an rescind my job application now (what do I even say)? TLDR; interviewer in third round of interviews for a small nonprofit communication position tried to purposely psyche me out. Then HR called me the next day to ask "how I thought the interview went" and if I was "caught off guard" by the questioning before telling me there would be a "large learning curve" and they need to check my references and writing samples of my academic work. Update: Thank you for all the advice! I ended up sending a withdraw email halfway through them going through my references. Now they are trying to get a reply out of me to explain why I withdrew.
